Call Your U.S. Representatives and Senators - Friday, July 29, 2011

Are You Angry?  You Should Be.

Our nation is still reeling from an economic crisis brought on by Wall Street and big banks.  Bad trade policy continues to kill U.S. jobs.  Millions remain without quality, full-time employment.  Steelworkers – like our Rapid Response champions at Local 878L in Union City, TN – are the latest additions to these devastating numbers.  Like too many Americans, they’re forced to ask the question: what’s next for me and my family?

Enough is enough.

What is the response from Washington?  They are not discussing jobs.  Instead, lawmakers in both parties are calling for MORE bad trade deals.  And, with the looming deadline of August 2 – a date on which we can no longer pay our bills as a nation unless the debt ceiling is raised – we are now talking about how much pain can be inflicted through cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other middle-class sustaining programs. Why?  It’s because Congressional Republicans have chosen to hold the debt ceiling vote hostage unless they get severe spending cuts.  At the same time, they are refusing to address the leading causes of the deficit, including the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest.

If this doesn’t sound right, that’s because it’s not.  Make sure your voice is heard.  That is the only thing that will change this broken debate.  We have done it before, and we can do it again.

Call Your U.S. Representatives and Senators on the Current Debt Ceiling Fight, then Get Right Back to Stopping the Bad Trade Deals!

Dial the Capitol Switchboard toll-free at 866-311-1889*
Ask for your Representative, then call again for your Senators

Tell your Members of Congress that:

  • You are a constituent.
  • You want them to raise the debt ceiling and OPPOSE any cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Then, make sure your local is taking action to stop the pending free trade agreements.  They remain a very substantial threat.  Click HERE for the ActionCall.

* There are very high call volumes at the Capitol this week.  If you have any difficulty getting through using the toll-free number, you can call your Members of Congress directly.  To look up names and contact information, go to www.house.gov and www.senate.gov (find the lookup feature at the top right of the page on both sites).
