Madison—Rep. Robin Vos, Assembly Republican co-chair of the powerful Joint Committee on Finance, announced late Thursday that he is withdrawing from a lawsuit regarding voter ID legislation amidst a growing ethics scandal about how legal work being done on his behalf was being paid. District 2 – Wisconsin 6/26/12

Rep. Robin Vos is fast developing a reputation as the most scandal-plagued member of the Legislature. Last year Vos, R-Burlington, used his position as co-chairman of the Joint Finance Committee to halt deliberations on serious state budget issues in order to advance legislation promoted by out-of-state interestsspecifically, the American Legislative Exchange Council, with which Vos has long been associated. District 4 – New York 2012

New York—New voting laws could make it significantly harder for more than five million eligible voters to cast ballots in 2012, according to the first comprehensive study of the laws’ impact. Widespread voting cutbacks could have a significant electoral impact in next year’s hard-fought races, the study concludes. District 9 – Florida 6/26/12

True the Vote, the Tea Party-affiliated organization that has rallied in support of voter ID laws, wants to stick up for Florida’s right to purge their voting rolls, according to a federal court filing. True the Vote teamed up with the conservative group Judicial Watch to file a motion seeking to intervene in a federal case over Gov. Rick Scott’s controversial purge of Florida’s voting list. District 9 – Florida 6/26/12

MIAMI—A federal judge on Wednesday rebuffed the Department of Justice’s emergency request to stop Florida’s attempt to remove people who are not American citizens from its voter registration rolls. Judge Robert L. Hinkle of United States District Court in Tallahassee said federal laws did not bar the state from identifying and removing ineligible voters from its rolls, though the Aug. 14 primary is less than 90 days away. District 9 – Mississippi 6/25/12

While we were not looking the Mississippi Department of Health slipped a rule into the procedure for obtaining a birth certificate. Now in order to receive a birth certificate to get a State Approved I.D. (to vote) the Applicant must provide an approved Photo I.D. This will essentially mean that most people without approved I.D. already, will never be able to obtain State approved I.D. in order to vote. Click Here.

St. Paul, Minn.—Former Democratic Vice President Walter Mondale and former Republican Gov. Arne Carlson became the public faces Tuesday of a fight against a proposed Minnesota constitutional amendment requiring voters to present photo IDs at the polls.
